FixMyCar recommends the best all-season car tyres for every budget.
Overview:
Best premium all-season tyre - Michelin CrossClimate 2
Best mid-range all-season tyre - Hankook Kinergy 4S 2
Best budget all-season tyre - RoadX Rxmotion 4S
The convenience of all-season tyres has made them an increasingly popular choice for UK drivers who want to avoid the cost and hassle of having two sets of tyres - one for summer, the other for winter.
Compared with the prospect of changing four tyres every six months - or paying someone else to do it for you - keeping the same ones all year round is an unsurprisingly attractive prospect.
When relying on a single set of tyres, it’s even more important to choose the right ones. That’s where this guide comes in. It contains something for every budget, from premium brands like Michelin to more affordable alternatives like RoadX.

How are all-season tyres tested?
How are all season tyres tested?
Testing all-season tyres is similar to winter tyres since both have to perform in harsh and often slippery conditions.
Generally, testers select a reproducible driving manoeuvre - such as braking from a particular speed to a standstill - and test each tyre’s ability in three conditions: wet, dry and snow. This testing process is usually done without ESP stability control.
The main performance areas for tyres are:
Braking
Noise
Fuel economy
Aquaplaning resistance
Our methodology
We don’t conduct tyre tests at FixMyCar. Instead, we analyse test data from industry-leading publications like Auto Express, combining it with information from expert and driver reviews to create a broader picture of how each tyre performs.

Performance and awards
While Hankook flirts with the boundary between mid-range and premium, Avon sits firmly in the former category, which helps to contextualise its position in the Auto Express 2022 All-Season Tyre Test: 7th (last).
However, against an array of premium tyres by some of the best brands in the business, the fact that the AS7 featured at all is impressive. Yes, it came last against a group of mostly premium tyres, but it was the cheapest in the lineup and is by far one of the best in the mid-range category.
The AS7 had an overall score of 97%, with perfect results for straight and curved aquaplaning (both 100%). Other notable scores include 99.9% for cabin noise, 98.3% for dry handling and 94.6% for snow circle; this is a quiet tyre that is exceptionally safe in the wet. It is also three-peak mountain snowflake certified.
At the time of writing, drivers have awarded the Avon AS7 4.6 stars out of 5 on Tyre Seeker based on 82 reviews, with first-rate scores of 91% for dry braking, comfort and buy again, and 90% for wet braking.
Why you should buy it
The AS7 is a great all-rounder, providing safety and performance for a reasonable price. Whether driving in snow or heavy rain, it’s a tyre you know you can rely on.

Versatile silica compound to boost wet weather traction.
S-shaped grooves to efficiently drain water.

Tyre Reviews has put it in 57th place out of 67 all-season touring tyres - an expected result for a budget tyre competing against premium giants like Bridgestone. If you’re looking for better performance but want to avoid an inflated price tag, mid-range tyres may be worth your consideration.
Why you should buy it
The Rxmotion 4S’s stability and handling make it a decent budget tyre for getting you from A to B. Your wallet will thank you for it, but your car’s overall performance may take a hit, especially when the weather is at its worst.
