WhoCanFixMyCar recommends five apps to help you get to and from your Christmas party
As we enter the festive season, the question of how to get to and from Christmas parties crops up time and again, especially as nobody wants to be stuck with the role of ‘designated driver’ if they can help it. After all, what are Christmas parties for if not drinking too much and embarrassing yourself in front of your work colleagues? (Not that we’re speaking from experience of course...).
To give you a helping hand with your travel arrangements, the team at WhoCanFixMyCar have put together a list of our five favourite taxi apps to help you get home safely.
It’ll come as no surprise that Uber, the taxi app that was started in San Francisco and has since taken the world by storm, is at the top of our list. Uber offers a cheaper alternative to traditional taxis. You can book, track and cancel rides through your smartphone.
Another great feature is the ability to leave reviews for drivers, so you can feel safer and more confident when you ride. However, drivers can also leave reviews for passengers - so it’s probably best to keep the drunken antics to a minimum until you’re out of the car.
This is the most popular taxi app in the UK, so there are cars available in most places to take you where you need to go - which is good news for those of us who live outside a big city or town.
Cab Guru is a taxi and cab comparison app designed to make life easier. It gives you access to companies across the UK at any time of day, so you can compare journey costs and arrival times in less than a minute and book one at a fixed price.
The fixed price promise is ideal for your Christmas night out because it takes all the guesswork out of getting a taxi. It’s also nice to see another app that isn’t London-centric.
This app is a result of the merger between Hailo and MyTaxi. Thanks to its primary focus on black cabs, it’s only available in London, but if you’re in the capital and need to get somewhere pronto, Taxiapp UK is a great choice. It's also not for profit co-op run by black cab drivers doing its bit to keep black cabs on London’s roads.
Choose between 5 and 6 seats (ideal for bigger Christmas parties), pick your location, and the app will hail a cab that’s close by. Like Uber, you can keep track of your ride at each stage of the journey. Easy!
Operating in three cities across the country - Aberdeen, Liverpool and London - ComCab offers a wide variety of transport solutions and a few different ways to book. You can call, email or use the app, and doing the latter means you’re able to track your taxi.
ComCab was first established in 1958 in Liverpool, so to say they’ve been around the block a few times and know what they’re doing is a bit of an understatement. If you need a reliable ride and are in the right location, ComCab is a good choice.
Another London-based platform, Kabbee is an award winning minicab comparison and booking app. According to its website, Kabbee is 28% cheaper than Uber for airport rides, suggesting it’s probably cheaper for everyday journeys, too.
You can choose to pay by cash, card or a pre-paid account. Be careful about being on time, however, as 15 pence is added to your fare for every minute the cab has to wait for you.
