FixMyCar recommends five apps to help you get to and from your Christmas party.
As we enter the festive season, the question of how to get to and from Christmas parties crops up repeatedly, especially as nobody wants to be stuck with the ‘designated driver’ role. To help you with your travel arrangements, we've compiled a list of our five favourite taxi apps to help you get home safely.
Contents
1. Uber
It’ll come as no surprise that Uber, the taxi app that started in San Francisco and has since taken the world by storm, is at the top of our list. Uber offers a cheaper alternative to traditional taxis. You can book, track and cancel rides through your smartphone.
Another great feature is the ability to leave reviews for drivers so you can feel safer and more confident when you ride. Drivers can also leave reviews for passengers.
As the most popular taxi app in the UK, Uber ensures that there are cars available in most areas, making it a convenient option for those of us who live outside major cities.
2. Cab Guru
Cab Guru is a taxi and cab comparison app designed to make life easier. It gives you access to companies across the UK at any time of day to compare journey costs and arrival times in less than a minute and book at a fixed price.
The fixed price promise is ideal for your Christmas night out because it removes all the guesswork of getting a taxi. It’s also nice to see another app that isn’t London-centric.
3. Taxiapp UK
This app is a result of the merger between Hailo and MyTaxi. Thanks to its primary focus on black cabs, it’s only available in London, but if you’re in the capital and need to get somewhere pronto, Taxiapp UK is a great choice. It's a not-for-profit co-op run by cab drivers doing their bit to keep black cabs on London’s roads.
Choose between five and six seats (ideal for bigger Christmas parties), pick your location, and the app will hail a cab that’s close by. Like Uber, you can keep track of your ride at each stage of the journey.
4. ComCab
Operating in three cities across the country - Aberdeen, Liverpool and London - ComCab offers various transport solutions and a few different ways to book. You can call, email or use the app, and doing the latter means you can track your taxi.
ComCab was first established in 1958 in Liverpool, so to say they’ve been around the block a few times and know what they’re doing is an understatement. If you need a reliable ride and are in the right location, ComCab is a good choice.
5. Kabbee
Kabbee is another London-based platform providing an award-winning minicab comparison and booking app. According to its website, Kabbee is 28% cheaper than Uber for airport rides.
You can choose to pay by cash, card or a pre-paid account. Be careful about being on time, however, as 15 pence is added to your fare for every minute the cab has to wait for you.
