Overview: Blackarrow is a relatively new tyre company ideal for drivers with a small budget. It is known for producing cheap tyres with good grip on wet and dry roads, though they lack the performance of products by other budget brands like Accelera. Our favourite Blackarrow car tyre is the Super Dart P16.

When it’s time for a new set of car tyres, you want to be sure you’re choosing a reliable brand that’s right for you. Whether you’re looking for cutting-edge performance or tyres to get you from A to B safely, it’s worth shopping around. That’s why we created this tyre review series.

This guide is about Blackarrow, a budget brand making tyres since 2019. Its mission is to offer drivers a diverse range of affordable tyres for passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

Although Blackarrow isn’t as well known as other budget brands like Accelera and Tristar, its tyres are gaining popularity and are exported globally. They benefit from the expertise of Blackarrow’s parent company, Uninova, which owns multiple tyre brands.

Rather than wasting time hopping from one website to another researching Blackarrow, you can use this guide, which contains information from everyday drivers and industry experts all in one place.

Why Choose Tyres from Blackarrow?

Blackarrow may be a budget brand, but still strongly focuses on research and development. The chief engineer has over 20 years of experience in the tyre industry, coming up with innovative ways to make tyres cheaper without sacrificing safety.

This is one of the key differences between Blackarrow and premium brands like Continental - rather than prioritising high levels of performance, which pushes prices up, Blackarrow focuses on efficiency, passing significant savings onto drivers.

Cutting-edge machines produce Blackarrow tyres before they undergo rigorous quality control tests. The result is durable tyres that will go the distance.

There is something for everyone in the Blackarrow range, including 4x4 tyres and all-season tyres that hold their own no matter the weather.

Drivers often comment on the ability of Blackarrow tyres to maintain excellent grip on wet roads, making them a cheaper rival of the mid-range brand Uniroyal, which specialises in wet weather performance.

It’s true that you get what you pay for - Blackarrow tyres will never be impressive in the way that a set of Goodyear tyres might be. What they offer instead is safety and grip for an attractive price.

Design Features of Blackarrow Tyres

Design features vary depending on the purpose of the tyre and may include:

  • Asymmetric tread pattern - for reliable grip and excellent stability.

  • Rib pattern - offers lower rolling resistance and directional stability.

  • Symmetric tread pattern - for smooth driving.

  • High rigidity polyester carcass - for reliable handling and control.

  • Durable rubber compound - ensures tyres last longer and can handle varying road conditions.

  • Zig zag sipes - for enhanced water evacuation, preventing aquaplaning.

Are Blackarrow Tyres Any Good? Full Review

Blackarrow tyres aren’t designed for next level performance, nor have all the bells and whistles associated with brands like Pirelli. Instead, they cater to buyers who want cheap, reliable tyres that won’t break the bank.

Most of Blackarrow’s tyres have a B rating for wet grip, making them reliable in a downpour. They typically have a good noise score, too. For example, the Super Bow Sport SP01 produces noise of 69 dB, putting it well within the “quiet” bracket of between 67 and 71 dB.

While Blackarrow’s summer tyres typically maintain a good grip on wet roads, their all-season counterparts don’t perform quite so well when pitted against rivals. In Tyre Reviews’ 2023 All Season Tyre 35 Set Shootout, the Blackarrow All Season Dart 4S came last, behind rivals by budget brands including Goodride and Hifly. While its dry braking performance was average, the tyre’s wet braking performance let it down with a distance of 63.8 metres.

Despite this lacklustre performance, Blackarrow’s tyres are generally deemed durable thanks to a reinforced sidewall, improving their stability and resistance to damage. With a three-year warranty to back this up, you can be sure Blackarrow tyres will go the distance.

You’ll never get the best grip or responsiveness from budget tyres - they’re affordable for a reason. But drivers are often pleasantly surprised by how capable and quiet Blackarrow’s tyres are, easily handling the transition from dry to wet roads.

We’d recommend Blackarrow if you have a small budget. It's a particularly good choice if you’re selling your car and don’t want to spend money on tyres you won’t benefit from. That said, other budget brands, such as Accelera, offer better performance for a similar price.
