The BMW i7 is an all-electric variant announced alongside the BMW 7 Series in April 2022. Because it’s still a reasonably new model, data about common problems is limited. Here’s what we know so far.
Recalls
As of October 2024, the i7 has only been subject to one recall.
| Recall number | Date | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| R/2023/288 | 09.10.23 | On affected vehicles under certain conditions due to an increased loading on the wiper arm it may result in the loss of movement of the wipers. |
BMW i7 2022-present problems
Because the BMW i7 is still a relatively new model, there isn’t enough UK reliability data yet to identify any confirmed common faults. Most reports so far focus on general EV risks (such as electronics or sensor issues) rather than established i7-specific problems, so buying one with a full service history and software updates is especially important.
Common EV problems include:
Battery degradation
In-car electronics failure
Failed sensors
Is the BMW i7 reliable?

As the BMW i7 is still so new, it isn't possible to say how reliable it is because it hasn't yet been featured in the What Car? reliability survey. However, BMW came 8th out of 31 brands in the 2023 survey, beating Tesla and Mercedes.
