Overview: Continental is a premium tyre manufacturer, the fourth largest in the world. Its tyres are renowned for delivering exceptional grip in wet and dry conditions, and its all-season range is particularly impressive. Continental’s pricing is at the lower end of the premium segment compared to rival brands. Our favourite passenger car tyre is the award-winning PremiumContact 7.

The year before, it was also named ‘Tire Manufacturer of the Year’ by TTI.

Why Choose Tyres from Continental?
To say Continental has been making tyres for a while would be a huge understatement. With over a century and a half of experience, it has almost unparalleled expertise in creating tyres that deliver.
Continental invests heavily in research and development, ensuring its tyres are at the cutting edge of performance technology. In 2022, it launched the Automotive R&D Excellence Program, an initiative to boost the competitiveness of product development, providing better tyres with more innovations, faster.
Although Continental doesn’t have a strong connection to motorsport like some of its rivals (e.g. Bridgestone), it has many OE partnerships with car manufacturers, including Audi, BMW, Ford, Volvo and Volkswagen, to name just a few. In fact, every third car on the road is fitted with Continental tyres.
In 2018, Continental proved its credentials by winning no less than three Auto Express Tyre Test awards in the all-season, winter and summer categories. The tyres that took the top spots were the AllSeasonContact, WinterContact TS 860 and PremiumContact 6.
The great thing about Continental is the range of tyres it offers and the different passenger vehicles it caters to. There is something for everyone, and Continental is generally slightly cheaper than other premium rivals like Pirelli.
Continental’s R&D efforts are also being put to good use by championing sustainability. Together with research partners, it has developed Taraxagum - rubber made from dandelions which can be cultivated in Germany, thereby reducing CO2 emissions because it doesn’t have to be transported long distances.

Are Continental Tyres Any Good? Full Review
Continental is the fourth largest tyre manufacturer in the world, and it has achieved this level of success by manufacturing high-quality tyres that drivers want to buy again. Its tyres are known best for delivering impressive performance in wet and dry conditions, making them a great choice if you live in the UK, where we see an unfortunately large amount of rain.
We’d recommend Continental if you’re interested in all-season, touring or performance tyres. Although it’s a premium brand, it is cheaper than its closest competitors, Michelin and Goodyear, without compromising on quality.
That said, Continental’s all-season and performance tyres are some of the best on the market. For example, the SportContact 7, released in 2022, has won numerous awards, including one for product innovation at the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) Awards. It was also named Tyre of the Year by WhatTyre in 2022.
Likewise, Continental’s AllSeasonContact tyre is highly rated by drivers, earning 4.8 stars out of 5 based on 108 reviews on the Tyre Reviews website, with high scores for dry braking (92%), wet grip (87%), comfort (91%) and buy again (93%). Drivers comment on the tyre’s impressive stopping distances and grip in challenging conditions.
An extensive warranty covers all Continental tyres for your peace of mind. Most tyres are covered for a minimum of two years, starting when you purchase them. Generally, the shop or dealer where you made the purchase will handle any warranty requests.
Looking towards the future and the impending combustion engine ban from 2030, Continental has already developed its first tyre for electric cars, the Conti.eContact, which has been designed to provide motorists with unrivalled braking performance and a quiet ride. There aren’t a tremendous amount of driver reviews yet, but the ones that do exist are relatively mixed: on Tyre Reviews, the Conti.eContact has earned 2.7 stars out of 5 from two reviews, while on Tyre Seeker, it has a perfect score of 5 stars from three reviews.
Ultimately, Continental is an excellent choice for durable all-season tyres at the cheaper end of the premium bracket.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is special about Continental tyres?
One of the qualities Continental tyres are best known for is their ability to perform just as well in wet conditions as in dry conditions. Continental is also dedicated to achieving best-in-class braking performance, and its tyres are slightly more affordable than its rivals. Together, these things summarise what is unique about Continental tyres.
Is Continental as good as Michelin?
Based on figures from 2022, Michelin generates more revenue from its tyres than Continental. However, this is only half of the picture. Both companies are top manufacturers that produce excellent tyres; while Continental tyres generally perform better in wet conditions, Michelin tyres are known for their enhanced durability and fuel-saving performance.
How long should Continental tyres last?
Tyres should be replaced every ten years or 20,000 miles or when the tread falls below the legal limit of 1.6mm - whichever happens first. Continental tyres are known for their durability, and most come with a warranty of at least two years, so this is the minimum amount of time you can expect them to last.
