Oil capacity is another thing that depends on which engine your car has. You can find this information in your owner’s manual, along with the exact oil capacity.
The Ford Mondeo generally requires between 3.8 and 6.5-litres for an oil change. Some examples are given in the table below.
Mondeo engine | Oil capacity |

Things to consider when buying a battery for your Ford Mondeo
Start-Stop Systems: Models equipped with start-stop technology require Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) or Enhanced Flooded Batteries (EFB) due to their enhanced charge cycles and durability.
Battery Dimensions: It's crucial to match the battery dimensions and hold-down type to ensure proper fitment.
Cold Cranking Amps (CCA): Higher CCA values are beneficial for cold starts, especially in diesel engines.
Battery Brands: Reputable brands like Bosch, Varta, Exide, and Halfords offer batteries compatible with Ford Mondeo models.

Warning lights

What do the warning lights mean on a Ford Mondeo?
Dashboard warning lights are triggered by the car’s electronic control unit (ECU) when a problem is detected. You can learn some information by looking at the shape and colour of the light, but for a detailed diagnosis, you’ll usually need to book a diagnostic test.
Red lights indicate a severe problem. You should stop driving and contact a mechanic.
Yellow lights are less urgent – you can continue driving to your destination, but you should book your car into a garage.

Ford Mondeo warning lights you might not know
Ford auto start-stop indicator
The auto start-stop indicator symbol looks like the letter ‘A’ with a circular arrow around it. It illuminates green when the engine stops and flashes amber (in conjunction with an onscreen message) when the driver needs to take action. It appears grey with a strike-through when the system is unavailable.
The system is usually disabled in response to not meeting operating parameters rather than a fault. For example, it won’t work if:
The battery has a low charge
The driver’s door is open
The engine is cold
Ford AdBlue warning light (diesel models)
Euro 6 diesel models use AdBlue fluid to minimise harmful emissions. The AdBlue warning light resembles a beaker or fluid symbol with a road underneath. It appears when the fluid is running low, indicating you need to top it up soon.
Spotted a warning light but don’t know what’s causing it? Don’t guess – book a diagnostic test!
Common problems
Whether you’re already a proud Mondeo owner or you’re in the market for one, it’s helpful to know what kind of common problems the model experiences.
Our Ford Mondeo common problems guide explores this topic in detail, so we’ll just cover two top issues here.
1. Automatic gearbox problems
Some Mondeos are fitted with Ford’s Powershift automatic transmission. If the transmission oil isn’t changed on time – every 35,000 miles – it can lead to various transmission problems, including:
Delayed gear response
Slipping gears
Dragging clutch
If you’re buying a second-hand Mondeo with an automatic transmission, make sure the car has been serviced at the correct intervals with regular transmission fluid changes.
Find out what else to look for when buying a used car.
2. Faulty heater

Some Mondeo owners have reported issues with the heater blowing cold air. This can be caused by:
Bad thermostat
Broken heater core
Faulty heater control valve
