WhoCanFixMyCar reveals the Top 10 cheapest cars to service in the UK today
Getting your car serviced on a regular basis is a vital part of owning a car, helping to ensure your vehicle always runs smoothly.
But with so many makes and models, which cars represent the best value for money when it comes to an annual full service?
The team at WhoCanFIxMyCar, the UK’s largest online car maintenance marketplace, have analysed the average service costs of the most popular cars on our roads to identify the top 10 cheapest cars to service in the country today.
The results threw up a few surprises, since everyone assumes it’s the smaller cars that tend to be the cheapest. However, when we dug a little deeper, we found that there was everything from cheap family runabouts such as the Suzuki Baleno through to multi award-winning pocket-sized SUVs like the Skoda Kamiq among the cars claiming one of the coveted top spots.
Cheapest cars to service in the UK
1. Suzuki Baleno
If you’re looking for a cheap family hatchback with lots of space and plenty of spec as standard, then the Suzuki Baleno (pictured below) ticks all the boxes. It’s also almost £10 cheaper for a full service than its nearest rival – almost enough to treat the whole family to a KFC Family Feast at the drive thru to celebrate – making it the cheapest car for a full service on average right now in the UK.
Cost: £177.29
2. Citroen C4 Spacetourer
Previously known as the Citroen C4 Picasso, the newly named Citroen C4 Spacetourer is one of the most spacious and economical mid-sized MPVs on the market. So, you would expect a seven-seater like this to carry a hefty service price tag. But that’s where you would be wrong; the C4 Spacetourer is far cheaper than cars almost half its size such as the Peugeot 108.
Cost: £178.98
3. Skoda Kamiq
This is one of the models that raised a few eyebrows in the office when we were crunching the numbers. The compact, multi award-winning Skoda Kamiq isn’t a car we expected to see anywhere near our Top 10 given that it’s built on a Volkswagen platform (and Volkswagen and cheap don’t usually appear in the same sentence). Which is why we were very pleasantly surprised to see it make it into our top three.
Cost: £184.27
4. Ford B-Max
Best-known for its sliding doors, the Ford B-Max could soon be about to become equally well-known for how cheap it is for an annual service, with the average price leaving the usual suspects such as the Hyundai i10 and Peugeot 108 in the shade.
Cost: £185.65
5. Mitsubishi Mirage
What the Mitsubishi Mirage lacks in quality, this spacious city car more than makes up for in terms of fuel economy, practicality and overall value for money. To the latter you can now also add some seriously low full-service costs.
Cost: £181.10
6. Seat Toledo
Described by Auto Car as “a no-nonsense family car” with little or “no thrills”, the Seat Toledo does at least have among the best-in-class annual service prices to now shout about.
Cost: £176.98
7. MINI Roadster
Punchy, practical and lots of fun to drive, the two-seated MINI Roadster proved an instant hit when it arrived in showrooms. While no longer in production, the Roadster remains a popular used car with drivers of all ages looking for something a little different. Their appeal is only likely to strengthen now people can see how competitive they are when it comes to servicing costs.
Cost: £189.00
8. Toyota IQ
The Toyota IQ is one of the most ingenious cars around with many owners still scratching their heads thinking how they have managed to fit so much into such a small car. Add to that great servicing costs and you’ve got the perfect pocket-sized car for both the city and the countryside.
Cost: £176.70
9. Dacia Sandero
The Dacia Sandero is without question excellent value for money and punches well above its weight in all areas, including when it comes to a full service. It’s also the cheapest of the Dacia model range, according to our figures, for both an interim service and MOT, making the cost of ownership even more affordable.
Cost: £177.40
10. Kia Picanto
Rounding out our Top 10 is the Kia Picanto, a staple of the Kia model range since the turn of the century. Highly affordable, this five-door city car provides its owners with lots of practicality, especially if they have a family, plus of course the manufacturer’s brilliant seven-year warranty. It is also right up there in terms of servicing costs, whether that’s for a full or interim service.
Cost: £178.15
