FixMyCar explains the benefits of using a mobile mechanic.
Taking your car to a garage can be a hassle, especially if you have to arrange time off work. Rather than trying to fit a repair around your busy schedule, you could have a mobile mechanic come to you.
Mobile mechanics usually operate from a fully-stocked van and can perform almost all the same tasks on your driveway as a traditional garage – while you concentrate on more important things instead.

2. They carry out most servicing and repairs
3. They tend to be cheaper than garages
4. They can help if you have broken down
1. They come to you
One of the most obvious benefits of using a mobile mechanic is that they come to your home or workplace. All you have to do is park somewhere flat, safe and away from the main road where they can get on with the work while you focus on other things.
2. They carry out most servicing and repairs
Mobile mechanics are fully qualified to carry out all necessary repairs on your car, from brakes to batteries and everything in between. There are some jobs they might not be able to do for practical reasons - such as needing access to a ramp or heavy equipment that can't be transported - but they will advise you about this before you make a booking.
3. They tend to be cheaper than garages
Mobile mechanics have lower overheads than traditional garages - they don't have to pay for rent, electricity and other bills involved in operating a workshop. This means they can often pass these savings onto you, offering lower prices.
4. They can help if you have broken down
If you find yourself stranded on the side of the road, a mobile mechanic can come to you, and in many cases, should be able to fix your vehicle on the spot, saving you the hassle of calling a breakdown service or tow truck.
5. You can see the work being carried out
The great thing about a mobile mechanic is that you can see exactly what they are doing on your driveaway. It also makes it easier if they (or you) have questions or need to discuss replacement parts.

Case Study: Dorset Response
One person who knows only too well about the benefits of using a mobile mechanic is James Brown from Dorset Response.
James, who has worked as a mechanic since he was in his late teens, decided to go mobile a few years ago, and today his business, which is part of the FixMyCar network, comes to the aid of drivers not just in Dorset but Hampshire as well as neighbouring Somerset and Wiltshire.
“One of the main reasons people tend to use a mobile mechanic,” explained James, who travels to most of his jobs on a specially-adapted Honda Pan-European 1300, “is the convenience. We come to you, whether it’s at home or work, and carry out the repair as long as it’s safe to do so. Nothing ever takes more than an hour. People really appreciate that, especially given that so many of us are leading such busy lives.
“Unfortunately, we can’t complete all work, as we’re limited in what we carry, but if we can’t do something then we’ll always tell the customer up front and tell them to book it in with a garage to get the necessary work carried out."
James added: “The other big benefit for customers is that they can see what’s being done to their car, which isn’t always the case with garages, and even watch you while you carry out the work. It’s a not a problem – just as long as they stick the kettle on of course!”
Next time you need a repair or service, using a mobile mechanic could help save time and money.
