WhoCanFixMyCar explains the benefits for drivers of using a mobile mechanic

Getting to the garage can sometimes be anything but straightforward. Whether it’s work, the kids, outside interests, there’s always something stopping you taking time out to get your car repaired.

This is one of the reasons why we’ve seen an explosion in the number of mobile mechanics appearing on UK roads. Mobile mechanics more often than not usually operate from a fully stocked van and can perform almost all the same tasks on your driveway as a traditional garage – while you can concentrate on more important things instead.

They come to you (not the other way round)

One of the most obvious benefits of using a mobile mechanic is that they come to your home or workplace – seven days a week. Many will also travel to get to you. And, as long you have somewhere flat, safe and is away from the main roads, they can crack on leaving you to carry on with work.

They come to you if you have broken down

If you find yourself stranded on the side of the road, a mobile mechanic will be able to get out to you and should be able to fix your vehicle on the spot, saving you the hassle of calling a breakdown service and getting them to recover your car to the nearest garage.

They carry out most servicing and repairs

Mobile mechanics are fully qualified to carry out all necessary repairs on your car, from brakes to batteries and everything in between. There will be some repairs that they can’t do but the mechanic will be able to advise you of this prior to booking so that you can organise for this work to be carried out in a garage.

They tend to be cheaper than garages

Although not always the case, by and large, mobile mechanics tend to be cheaper than their garage counterparts, thanks to their lower overheads – savings which they can pass on to you, the customer.

You can see the work being carried out

The great thing about a mobile mechanic is that you can see exactly what they are doing on your driveaway. It also makes it easier if they have questions or they need to discuss replacement parts.

Types of work carried out by mobile mechanics

  • Battery

  • Brake pads and discs

  • Cambelts

  • Clutches

  • Electrical faults

  • Tyres

So next time you need some work doing to your car, and you are struggling to get to your local garage, make sure to consider using a mobile mechanic.

Plus, with WhoCanFixMyCar you can compare reviews, prices and accreditation of local mobile mechanics throughout the UK absolutely free of charge.

Case Study: Dorset Response

One person who knows only too well about the benefits of using a mobile mechanic is James Brown from Dorset Response.

James, who has worked as a mechanic since he was in his late teens, decided to go mobile a few years ago, and today his business, which is part of the WhoCanFixMyCar network, comes to the aid of drivers not just in Dorset but Hampshire as well as neighbouring Somerset and Wiltshire.

“One of the main reasons people tend to use a mobile mechanic,” explained James, who travels to most of his jobs on a specially-adapted Honda Pan-European 1300, “is the convenience. We come to you, whether it’s at home or work, and carry out the repair as long as it’s safe to do so. Nothing ever takes more than an hour. People really appreciate that, especially given that so many of us are leading such busy lives.

“Unfortunately, we can’t complete all work, as we’re limited in what we carry, but if we can’t do something then we’ll always tell the customer up front and tell them to book it in with a garage to get the necessary work carried out.

James added: “The other big benefit for customers is that they can see what’s being done to their car, which isn’t always the case with garages, and even watch you while you carry out the work. It’s a not a problem – just as long as they stick the kettle on of course!”
