How do you test a worn clutch?
You can perform a few tests to check whether your clutch is worn.
The first thing to focus on is the clutch pedal. Press it down with the car switched off and see how it feels. It should be relatively firm - neither easy nor hard to push. If it doesn't feel right, you may have a worn or faulty clutch, though other issues could also be to blame.
While you’re testing the pedal, listen for any unusual noises. You can also check these things while driving.
Next, try starting your car in a high gear. If you release the clutch and the engine immediately stalls, this is good because the clutch shouldn’t allow you to start in a high gear. If it doesn’t stall, try accelerating a little. It should stall after this, which is a sign that your clutch may be slightly worn but not severely.
