DURHAM Motor Services - a family firm based at New Road Garage in Beamish near Stanley - has built a well-deserved reputation for the quality of its servicing and repair facility, particularly in regard to diesel vehicles. The company was founded eleven years ago by managing director Peter Johnson, who has many years in the motor trade behind him. Peter saw a gap in the market for a specialist diesel repair garage and opened one in 1997 with one technician. When the company outgrew its original site Peter moved it to larger premises in 2003 and formed Durham Motor Services to cope with the growing demand. Now with a workforce of 14, Durham Motor Services continues to buck trends. In addition to investing in new state-of-the-art common rail diesel diagnostic test and repair equipment, the company has recently been appointed the first Delphi Diesel Point Service Centre in the North-East. With the addition of a purpose built Class IV and VII MoT bay, it continues to draw both private and trade customers and carry out repairs and servicing on all marques thanks to a highly-skilled team of technicians. In addition to its shop and forecourt the company operates a caravan storage facility and is the proud sponsor of Beamish Community FC.
