Suffering from a dead battery is one of the most common causes of breakdown for drivers in the UK and Cricklewood though it is one of the least severe issues as there won’t be any serious damage caused to your Lancia and a simple recharge is all that would be required.

However that shouldn’t stop you from trying to avoid a dead battery as it can be incredibly frustrating to deal with.

There are a number of reason for why a battery could run out of power and die which we will go through below.

We’ll also cover how to charge the battery yourself and what to do if there seems to be a more serious problem.

What causes a dead battery?

There are a host of reasons that you could suffer from a dead Lancia battery, including; old battery age, leaving lights on, cold weather, using your car for a large amount of short journeys.

How do I recharge my Lancia battery?

If your battery is very low then it is easier to recharge which is why you should do your best to keep an eye on the battery level.

There are adapters available which will allow you to plug the battery directly into a main socket in your garages or extension lead.

However, if your Lancia batter is completely dead then you’ll have to jump start your Lancia using leads and another vehicle.

If your Lancia battery has died this will be an easier problem to resolve as all that is required is a jump from another vehicle.

If you need to jump start your Lancia due to a dead battery, follow these instructions. However, don’t forget to have your vehicle checked by a mechanic even if a jump start works.
  • Find your jump cables
  • Line another car up and park it, leaving both ignitions off
  • Remove the caps from each battery
  • Connect the cables
  • Attach one of the red clips to the positive terminal of your battery (it will have POS or a plus sign on it and it may be bigger than the negative terminal)
  • Attach the red clip on the other end to the terminal of the other car.
  • Attach one of the black clips to the negative terminal of the working cars battery
  • Attach the other end of the black clip to a surface area of unpainted metal on the car that isn’t working (somewhere far away from the carburettor or battery)
  • Try to start your engine
If the engine starts, brilliant! Take a drive around Cricklewood as this will recharge the battery.

If it doesn’t, go back and make sure the cables are all attached properly and let the other car run for five minutes or so.

If the Lancia still won’t start, then it is likely your Lancia has a major issue that you should get a mechanic to look as soon as possible.
