Looming hundreds of feet up in Munich's skyline is BMW's headquarters, a vast and impressive building designed to look like four engine cylinders - the configuration that drove much of the brand's early success.
BMW has come a long way since 1927, when it produced its first car, the Dixi, shortly to be renamed the BMW 3/15. In 2022, it was awarded 'Best Manufacturer' at the AutoCar Britain's Best Car Awards, and the same year, it triumphed at the WhatCar? Awards, winning more accolades than any other brand. The M5 special edition, celebrating 20 years of BMW motorsport, is one of the rarest M automobiles in the world.
See how BMW's maintenance prices compare to Audi and Mercedes in this guide.
The BMW X5, a pinnacle of luxury and performance in the SUV segment, offers a driving experience that combines speed, power and style. It boasts a top speed of 155 mph and achieves 0 to 60 mph in under 4 seconds. Like any vehicle, the X5 may face some common issues, with drivers reporting noisy suspension and leaking EGR coolers. The X5's rivals include the Porsche Cayenne and Range Rover Sport, and although it isn't the best car for serious off-roading, it's a formidable machine for everyday use.
The engine management light (EML) - also referred to as the check engine light - is a small engine symbol that becomes illuminated on your dashboard to indicate a problem, the severity of which is suggested by the colour of the light (red or yellow) and whether it stays on or flashes (usually due to misfires).
Many things can trigger the EML. Some are easy to fix, such as a loose fuel cap, while others are more expensive, such as a faulty catalytic converter. One of the most common reasons is a defective oxygen sensor - if your car is also experiencing a drop in fuel efficiency and black smoke from the exhaust, this is likely why.
Read this guide for more information about why the engine management light comes on and how to fix it.
You don't have to risk driving your car to a garage when the EML is illuminated. Instead, you can book a mobile mechanic, who will carry out an engine management light repair at a convenient location for you.
