The most likely your car won't start is due the battery being flat or your battery has a fault. This usually caused by something causing battery drain in the electrical system or lights being left on unintentionally. In addition to the car not starting it is unlikely you'll be able to use the lights or radio.
This depends on the condition of your battery. If you can jump start the car, then driving for at least 30 minutes may part-charge the battery, allowing the car to start next time. However, if the battery is dead on the next attempt to start the car you may need to fit a new battery.
If the battery is flat and you have no-way of charging the battery you will need to have a new battery fitted. You may be covered under your breakdown cover if you have it, however if you are not covered we can help to find a mobile battery fitment solution from our network.
Car battery replacement is becoming more complicated and we advise you seek the assistance of a garage or mobile mechanic. They will help you source a quality battery, for example a Varta or Bosch battery that fits your vehicle perfectly and then fit it at your home.
On average, your car's battery will last about five years although your mileage may vary. However, this does not mean that your battery will last longer, or indeed wear prematurely. If you pick up on any symptoms of battery failure make sure to act fast to avoid serious damage.
The most common way to deal with a dead battery is by jump-starting it. If that fails and you feel your battery is on its way out, the best course of action is to contact a mechanic for a car battery repair or replacement.
