Launched in 2005 as a successor to the Fiat Punto and based on the same platform as the Mk3 Vauxhall Corsa, the Grande Punto quickly became a popular choice in the subcompact car segment. Some versions have a top speed of up to 120 mph, achieving 0-60 mph in around nine to 12 seconds. The popularity of this model is reinforced by numerous awards, including the 2006 'Scottish Small Car of the Year' award and a design award from Auto Car. Common problems with the Grande Punto include loose and squeaking internal components, failing door mechanisms, and suspension issues.
Cars struggle to start for many reasons, making it hard to diagnose what's wrong. A dead battery is the most common cause; if this is the case, the engine should still turn over but won't get going unless you give it a jump start or use a battery charger. Other possible explanations include a faulty starter motor, clogged fuel injectors, a faulty - rather than flat - battery, issues with the alternator, a flooded engine, a jammed ignition lock and engine intake problems.
