The Punto Evo debuted in 2009, building on the success of the original Fiat Punto with innovative features like MultiAir engine technology, which increases power and torque while reducing emissions. Top speeds vary between different engine configurations, reaching between 110 and 120 mph with a 0-60 time of eight to 12 seconds. In automotive publications, the Punto Evo has earned praise for being superb fun to drive and competitively priced. A few common problems have been noted, including electric steering faults and ECU issues.
EGR stands for exhaust gas recirculation. The EGR valve links the intake manifold and the exhaust manifold. It plays a vital role in helping to reduce the amount of NOx emitted from a car. Learn more about how it works here.
Over time, EGR valves can become clogged due to a build-up of soot, and when this happens, an EGR valve clean or replacement is required. Common symptoms of an EGR fault include rough idling, erratic engine functioning (including stalling), increased fuel consumption and higher emissions.
Some manufacturers recommend using an EGR cleaning service every 50,000 miles; doing so helps prevent performance issues and extends the component's life.
EGR valves typically have a lifespan of around ten years. After this time, it's best to book an EGR valve replacement if you experience any of the symptoms listed above. A stuck EGR valve will speed up the process of the diesel particulate filter (DPF) becoming blocked.
