The Punto was launched in the UK in 1993 as the successor of the Fiat Uno, going through three generations until it went out of production in 2018. It was the first compact car to use ‘Common Rail' fuel injection technology and the Speedgear electric transmission, and in 1995, it won the prestigious 'European Car of the Year' award. It has also been used in numerous racing series, with the Grande Punto winning four European rally championships between 2006 and 2011.
