Frequently asked questions

What is a Full Service and MOT?

A Full Service and MOT includes a comprehensive service of your car. Essential fluids are replaced or topped up, filters are relplaced, spark plugs on petrol cars are also replaced (diesel cars don't have them.) Typically essential moving components are thoroughly lubricated too. Finally the garage will perform a thorough inspection of your car to spot any additional advisable repairs. Finally your car is given the standard MOT test, a legal requirement for cars over 4 years old.

What is the difference between a Full Service and Interim Service?

The key difference between 'Full' and 'Interim' (or 'Minor') servicing is that Interim Servicing focuses on the items that require the most regular checking or changing, such as engine oil. A Full Service will also include further checks and procedures such as gearbox oil top-up, brake fluid test, steering/suspension greasing and the like.
+

What is an MOT test?

The MOT (or 'MOT Test') is an annual inspection of vehicle safety, roadworthiness and emissions. The MOT is required annually on cars over 3 years old. It is illegal to drive a 3+ year old car without one, unless driving to/from the MOT test centre.
+

How much does a Full Service and MOT cost?

You should expect to pay from £150 to £300 for a Full Service and MOT. The difference will be driven by your car (larger-engined cars require more oil and fluids, often pricier filters etc), the comprehensiveness of the additional checks involved, and, of course, any 'deal' pricing available from the garage or dealership.
+

Can I request additional repair work?

Of course. When you request your Full Service and MOT, you can state any additional work required, or issues to be investigated. New tyres, a cambelt change or new radiator are all commonly-requested items.

Can Mobile Mechanics perform a Full Service and MOT?

An MOT test needs to be performed at an official, licenced, MOT Test Centre, and can't be completed at your home or work. However many of our Mobile Mechanics will take your car to the test centre on your behalf. So, in short, yes they can.
