Jaguar was founded in 1922 when it was initially called the Swallow Sidecar Company; since then, it has become a quintessentially British car brand. There are lots of quirky facts about Jaguar that most people don't know. The XE is Jaguar's answer to the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series - two class-leading executive saloons that have dominated this market segment for many years. It is the successor of the X-Type, offering improved handling and comfort for a reasonable price compared to premium rivals.
In 2017, the XE gained its 60th major global award, winning the Auto Express 'Compact Executive Car of the Year' title for the third consecutive year. Depending on your chosen engine, top speeds range from 120 to 150 mph, with a respectable 0-60 time of five to seven seconds.
Regarding reliability, the XE's record is average. In WhatCar?'s 2023 reliability survey, it came 17th out of 24 vehicles. Common problems include exhaust faults and non-electrical engine issues.
Cars struggle to start for many reasons, making it hard to diagnose what's wrong. A dead battery is the most common cause; if this is the case, the engine should still turn over but won't get going unless you give it a jump start or use a battery charger. Other possible explanations include a faulty starter motor, clogged fuel injectors, a faulty - rather than flat - battery, issues with the alternator, a flooded engine, a jammed ignition lock and engine intake problems.
