In 1886, Karl Benz - the founder of Mercedes Benz - introduced what is often considered the first petrol-powered car to the world. The Benz Patent Motor Car was born, and with it began a legacy that continues today.
Style, luxury and innovation are the driving forces behind Mercedes. Not only was it one of the first car manufacturers to put brakes and suspension on all four wheels, but it was also the first to introduce safety crumple zones.
Cars by Mercedes have appeared on the big screen numerous times, from the S-Class used by Jason Statham in The Transporter to escape a gunfight to the 1969 280 SE Convertible driven by Hugh Grant in Bridget Jones's Diary.
See how Mercedes' maintenance costs compare with BMW's and Audi's here.
The engine management light (EML) - also referred to as the check engine light - is a small engine symbol that becomes illuminated on your dashboard to indicate a problem, the severity of which is suggested by the colour of the light (red or yellow) and whether it stays on or flashes (usually due to misfires).
Many things can trigger the EML. Some are easy to fix, such as a loose fuel cap, while others are more expensive, such as a faulty catalytic converter. One of the most common reasons is a defective oxygen sensor - if your car is also experiencing a drop in fuel efficiency and black smoke from the exhaust, this is likely why.
Read this guide for more information about why the engine management light comes on and how to fix it.
You don't have to risk driving your car to a garage when the EML is illuminated. Instead, you can book a mobile mechanic, who will carry out an engine management light repair at a convenient location for you.
