North Wales vehicle repairs

There are many areas of vehicle repairs which CP Motors can undertake, just a few are listed below,

Brakes.
Maintenance and repairs on your vehicles breaking system are very important, after all, these are what help you come to a gentle stop or more immediate halt in an emergency. Common faults can be squeaking/ grinding noises, sponginess or soft brake pedal and even a dashboard warning light. From just brake pad and disc replacement to a full brake fluid change and caliper replacement, we can help with a full inspection, diagnosis and repair of braking issues.

Exhausts.
At CP Motors we recommend you have an exhaust system check every year. The exhaust system is designed to remove the harmful fumes from the combustion of the engine and deposit them safely away from the vehicle. The inspection helps identify for cracks, leaking joints, broken hangers, worn rubber mountings, corrosion, failed gaskets and other damage or wear which can effect a vehicles health and performance. After we have completed your inspection, we will provide you with an estimate for any work which is required.

Suspension.
Your vehicles suspension system is there to provide a comfortable, controlled and smooth driving experience, and with high performance cars, it is there to help balance the car under invigorating driving conditions. The suspension can be made up of 2 main components, Coil Spring and Shock Absorber. These can gradually deteriorate over time and not be noticed, or a banging noise can be heard over bumps. At CP Motors we can inspect your suspension system and best advise a course of action.

Engine.
The heart of the car which provides the power to get you moving. As with any heart, it is important to look after it. Regular maintenance and quality fluids help to keep this heart beating. Regular maintenance could be engine oil top ups, oil & filter changes and even a Cam Belt change. Further inspections/ replacement of Alternators and Starter Motors may be necessary.

If your engine develops a problem, we can help with a Diagnostic check and/ or visual inspection.

Transmission. (Clutch & Gearbox).
The clutch and gearbox provide a reduction in the speed from the engine and transmit this through the drive shafts to the wheels to provide motion. It is important to keep these in good working order to provide a smooth delivery of power.

CP Motors can provide anything from a gearbox fluid change, flywheel/ clutch kit replacement right through to a full replacement gearbox if necessary.

Frequently asked questions

What is engine oil?

Engine oil is critical for the health of your car and if the engine oil warning light has come on, you need to pull over and check under your car to see if there is a leak. If there is, you need to get to a garage as quickly as possible as a low amount of engine oil is damaging to a car. This is because engine oil prevents the build-up of heat and friction in between the parts in your cars engine. Without engine oil to ease the friction and disperse the heat, there will be a serions problem.
+

How much will an oil change cost?

Changing engine oil is one of the easiest services for a mechanic to carry out and the price should be minimal to you. The prices below this FAQ section highlight the average costs for a range of different models, however, the only was to get an accurate quote is by entering your detials in the form above. You'll then be able to access personal estimates from garages in your local area.

What oil for my car?

There are a number of different engine oils available to motorists and it can be confusing when trying to choose which one is right for you. To help you understand which one you should buy, we have written a useful guide below the pricing table. We'll tell you the difference between synthetic oil, none synthetic oil, conventional motor oil and high-mileage motor oil.

What will happen if I don't get my engine oil topped up?

Bad things! By ignoring the engine oil light on your car, you are taking a massive risk with the health of the car and your own safety. There are two possible causes of a car running out of engine oil. The first is that it has naturally been used up and it simply needs topping up. If this is he case you car will need to be topped up as soon as possible as key components will be generating dangerous amounts of heat and friction, however, the engine oil light will come on while there is still enough engine oil in the system to see you through to your next top up. However, the second cause of engine oil dropping is that there is a leak in the system. You can check this by checking under the vehicle and looking out for dripping. If the engine warning light has come on and you can see dripping, there is a strong chance that it is engine oil. If this is the case, you need to get to a garage as soon as possible and have the source of the leak plugged.

Changing Car Oil

Hopefully our FAQ section has answered some of the questions you may have about changing the oil in your car. However, if you would like more information, we have the produced the following guide and video to help you understand the subject in greater detail.

Changing the oil in a car is an essential part of keeping a vehicle healthy and safe. Engine oil is the lubricant that keeps the numerous moving parts moving without friction.

You will know when you need to change the oil in your car as soon as the yellow light on your dashboard comes on. As soon as this happens you should take your car to a garage to have the oil.

Changing oil is recommended every 3000-5000km, however if you have a special synthetic oil, you may be able to go 10,000 miles before changing.

However, if you drive your car fast, live in a hot, cold or dusty environment, you may need to change the oil in your car more often. If you have an older car you may need to have the oil changed more frequently too.

Having the oil changed on your car is not a complicated job however it can be a very messy as it involves draining old oil from underneath the car a new batch being poured in.

It is essential that your filter is also changed as your engines performance depends greatly on the distribution of oil throughout the system.

The filter allows dirt and debris to be carried out of the car engine which is vital to keep it running, however, much like a hoover, the filter can become clogged up and the performance of the whole system is effected as a result.

The mechanic who is changing your oil will also clean the filter as this is part of having your oil changed.

If you want to learn how to change the oil in your car and do the job yourself, you can, however you will need specialist tools and supplies to replace oil yourself.

There are also several types of oil and oil filter which are manufactured to work in certian engines. Find out from the car owner’s manual which oil and filter is correct for your car, the main types are;

Synthetic motor oil

This is the highest grade of oil as it is created by oil engineers, scientists and chemists who control the ingredients in a highly measured and calculated way. This oil will have the highest levels of lubrication and engine protection which will keep your engine running smoothly and guard against heat build-up.

Synthetic blend motor oils

This type of oil is a mixture between conventional oils and the synthetic type described above. This type of oil is recommended for cars, vans, lorries and heavy loaded vehicles as is contains excellent low-temperature properties.

High-mileage motor oil

If you have an older car this is the oil for you. Some high mileage, high performance cars are better served by synthetic oil. However, this blend of oil has a unique mixture of additives and viscosity, this oil will have reduced burn off, will help seal oil leaks and will also help improve the combustion chamber sealing which in turn improves engine compression.

Conventional motor oil

Conventional oil comes in many grades, based on viscosity (thickness and fluidity), with each grade being blended to suit a particular car, environment and driving style.

Make sure you use the right oil if you are replacing it yourself or if you’re getting it completed by a garage.

You should be able to find what oil you need by looking in your car owner’s manual, this is important because if you put the wrong oil in your car you could face trouble!
