What is car window tinting?

Car window tinting involves the application of tinting film onto a window glass surface. A window tinting specialist will install window tints using a thin film of the inside of your car to darken it and block the harmful radiation from the sun.

Window tints are said to block 90% or more of harmful UV rays while also reducing heat, which can help to avoid a warped, faded or cracked interior. Apart from protecting your interior from the UV rays, window tints are also said to improve fuel efficiency, cutting down the glare from the sun shining and improving privacy, plus it looks aesthetically pleasing. There are some legal rules to follow for how dark your front window tints can be though. In the UK, you can legally tint the rear windows (rear doors and rear windscreen) as dark as you like, but the front windows can be tinted up to 70% and the windscreen 75%.

People choose to get their car windows tinted for various reasons, from anti glare, privacy, UV protection and heat reduction, extra security, prevent theft or glass breakage upon collision, to name a few.

Which car window tinting service do you need?

Since window tinting application is a meticulous job, you need to entrust your beloved vehicle to someone experienced. You can ask the window tinting specialist to apply window tints to your windshield, front side windows, rear side windows and even your back window. Depending on the style you want, you can opt for all possibilities or only your side windows. It’s up to you!

Here the some common types of car window tinting that you may request:

Dyed window tinting

The most common type of window tint for cars is the dyed tint film, as this is for appearance, rather than functionality. It’s versatile because if the driver wants the darkest window tinting look, then dyed tint with a dark black shade that appears opaque from the outside is the best option. This is the most affordable type of tinting and you can adjust the darkness depending on preference.

Metallised window tinting

As stipulated in the name, metalized tinting contains metal microparticles. The technology uses reflection to protect from UV rays or sunlight, rather than absorbing it. They are also scratch resistant, so longer lasting. They strengthen your windows so they can offer some extra protection.

Hybrid window tinting

Hybrid window tints are made up of a mix of dyes and metal particles. They contain some dyed layers with a metal layer sandwiched between them. A popular choice if you want less radio interference compared to the metallised one.

Carbon window tinting

Carbon window tints are long-lasting, and these tints are made up of carbon fibre particles that will not fade over time. Carbon window tinting is the best at blocking sun rays. They are more effective than dyed or metallic tints at blocking the sun’s rays.

Carbon tinting also has great insulating features. It is said to reduce heat from the sun that increases the vehicles’ inside temperature by about 40 percent. Carbon window tinting is more expensive than hybrid, dyed or metalized tinting, but the longevity and features offset the extra money.

Ceramic window tinting

The best sun-blocking window tint is no other than the ceramic window tint. It is said to block around 99 percent of UV rays. They also do not fade due to the absence of dyes or metal particles, nor do they interfere with radio signals. Ceramic particles in this tint do not conduct heat so offer the same level of sunlight reflection with better insulation, which means they are good for reducing the inside temperature of the car. Ceramic tints, similar to metalised, are created to be shatter-proof, so you have extra protection. Ceramic tint is the most expensive tint available.
